Zoom Meetings

Joining Meetings

We send out emails a few days before meetings with the meeting link, meeting id and passcode attached. Normally just clicking on the meeting link will open Zoom on your device. If it asks for meeting Id and password please use those provided.

Please do this a few minutes before the talk starts. You will then be waiting to be admitted to the meeting by the meeting organiser.

Please note the different versions of Zoom all provide the same functions but the different functions are located in different places. For some devices a number of the options appear in the top right of the Zoom screen and for others it may be along the bottom. So when someone says press the’ Video Off’ button in the top right it may be along the bottom of the Zoom screen or even somewhere else for you!

Recordings

When possible the society will record talks and if permitted by the speaker provide these on the website for later viewing. The duration that they are on the website will be the decision of the speaker.

Meeting Guidelines

At the start of the talk, all participants other than the speaker will have their microphone muted by the meeting organiser.

There is little to be gained by participants having their video on so please turn your video off at least before the speaker begins his presentation – it may also help minimise connection issues, especially for those with a weak broadband connection.

If you have questions then during or at the end of the talk please use Zoom’s Chat option to ask the question. The speaker will then be able to respond to these at the end of the talk.
