Thank you for agreeing to give a lecture to the BAHS; hopefully a date, time, title and illustrative image have been agreed in advance. This information will be used to advertise the talk on the society’s website and elsewhere.
Fee/Expenses
Please note if you charge a fee or require travel expenses this should be agreed in advance with the BAHS lecture organiser.
Information Emails
If you wish to be kept up to date with our activities, please sign-up to our mailing list at www.bahs.uk/information-emails.
Venue
Our meetings are normally held in Cley Village Hall, The Fairstead, Cley-next-the-Sea, NR25 7RJ, with free parking available.
Timetable
Lectures are normally held on the last Tuesday of the month between September and April and may be in the afternoon or evening.
Doors open at the venue 30 minutes before the publicised start time. Please turn up ahead of the advertised start time to make sure the technology is setup and working correctly.
Audience
We typically get an audience of around forty to sixty members and visitors.
Lectures
Lectures should last around 45 minutes followed by a Q&A session. When possible, lectures should include elements relevant to North Norfolk and the area around the Glaven Valley.
If the lecture is held alongside the society’s AGM, the lecture is likely to held before the AGM.
If three lectures are being given (e.g. January members’ lectures) then each lecture should last about 15-20 minutes.
Refreshments
Refreshments will usually be offered after the Q&A session, with an opportunity for attendees to chat to the speaker.
Equipment
Most speakers use our Windows 10 laptop, overhead projector and screen, speaker system and remote control/pointer. Please bring your digital presentation (even if you plan to use your own laptop-see below) on a USB stick.
If you wish to use your own laptop please let us know in advance. If using your own laptop then we advise that you also bring your presentation on a USB in case a backup is needed.
Presentations may be in Microsoft Powerpoint or Adobe PDF format. If you wish to use something else please discuss this with us in advance.
We also have a 35mm slide projector and an overhead projector available, but we do need advance warning if you would like to use either of these.
For Apple Mac users, we have an adaptor cable for connecting an Apple Mac’s mini-port to our projectors’ VGA socket.
Publicity
Prior to the lecture the details of the event will be publicised on the website, posters and in local press. Please see www.bahs.uk/activities/events/current-events and follow the relevant link.
To help us publicise your lecture you will be asked for the following:
- Your name and any relevant affiliation (e.g. UEA).
- A short title that captures the essence of the lecture.
- An outline of the lecture, in a single sentence, for use on a poster.
- A paragraph or two describing your lecture. This normally gets used on the society’s website.
- If possible two or three pictures for use on the website.
